More than just care -- Rehabilitation & Reconditioning (FUNCTIONAL RESTORATION)
At Back to Basics, we also believe in active implementation (i.e., each patient should take an active role in their own health). While we recommend this for all patients, for some it is especially important. Active implementation ensures functional stabilization and general cardiovascular & strength conditioning. A program of Functional Restoration, helps reestablish joint mobility, muscular strength, endurance, conditioning, and cardiovascular fitness.
At Back to Basics we utilize a wide variety of equipment (gym balls, balance boards, free weights, pulley resistance, bicycle ergometers, and more) to create a program for your needs. The goal is to restore the ability to perform specific functional tasks such as lifting, bending, and twisting, and to restore that patient's tolerance to static positioning (i.e., sitting and standing).

Getting Well, Staying Well
Once restoration is established, our patients enjoy maintenance care in order to continue optimizing their potentials, and getting the most out of their daily lives. Thus, we are not only working to get you well again, but to keep you well in the future. It may be an old saying, but it still remains true, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" -- and we all know that preventing pain from occurring is a lot easier than stopping that pain once it occurs.

Back to Basics' added bonus
As an added bonus to our extensive treatment services, is the experience of both Christine Garton & David Murphy (Registered Massage Therapists), who provide relaxation & therapeutic massage to aid in recovery and provide relief from the everyday stresses of life. Add to this the expertise of Doug Brodie, our certified Kinesiologist, who provides Functional Abilities Evaluations, extended intensive exercise rehabilitation, and work hardening, and you begin to see why Back to Basics really is complete Health Care that fits your needs.

But wait, There's more(!)
Because spinal misalignments are often caused by the way we walk, Back to Basics also has a clinical computerized dynamic gait analysis for objective gait measurements and prescription orthotic therapy, when necessary.
Finally, Back to Basics is also equipped with x-ray services (Radiography) as an extra diagnostic tool to check for the presence of structural and functional aberrations.

Preventing tomorrow's pain - You are a part of Your Health
The changing needs of our population will require tomorrow's Doctors to not only be able to diagnose conditions, but to be able to effectively prevent conditions from becoming symptomatic.
It is clear that our Health Care system needs to take a new direction and have a new focus -- not only toward preventing future problems, but toward preventing existing problems from becoming recurrent.
With symptomatic (recurrent) conditions however, it is also very important to diagnose the condition -- not just the symptoms. It is in this way that we can functionally restore optimal health to each individual, preventing many future problems from occurring.
The importance of functional treatment relies on actively involving you, the patient, in your care. You and your Doctor become part of a team, with the Doctor serving the role as a coach and teacher. By helping to educate you on how to obtain and then retain optimal health, you then have the ability to take control of your own wellness and prevent preexisting conditions from returning, as well as stopping others from becoming dysfunctional.

What it all means
What this all comes down to is that Back to Basics' sole focus is about restoring and maintaining overall body health. We can help you obtain good health, but it is also your responsibility to keep it.
We encourage our patients to take an active role in their health, not only so they can get the most from their daily lives, but so they can also prevent other problems from ever occurring.
