If you've ever met Philip McAllister, you would not be surprised to know that beginnings of his education toward becoming a Healthcare Practitioner started at an early age, and continues even to this day. It is also not surprising to learn that Dr. McAllister believes that good health is a life long journey, and that education is our best weapon toward creating a healthy society.
Dr. McAllister began his health care training while still in high school in his hometown of Guelph, when he worked at the well known Homewood Sanitarium as a co-op student. After graduation, he enrolled at the University of Toronto and pursued his studies in Kinesiology and Rehabilitative Medicine, completing his Bachelor's degree in 1990. Returning home to Guelph, he completed a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Guelph, before moving to California to attend one of Chiropractic's oldest educational institutions, the Southern California University of Health Sciences (formerly the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic). Upon his graduation in April of 1995 (having made the Dean's List in the process), Dr. McAllister returned home to complete his Canadian Chiropractic Examining Board requirements and received his certification and licensing in June of 1995.
Since entering private practice, the Doctor has also received his certification in Sports Rehabilitation, and is also currently in enrolled in the College of Chiropractic Sport Sciences Fellowship Program.

And while his health care education has spanned more than a decade & a half and continues even today, Dr. McAllister has also had the opportunity to put his training to good use, working as an Emergency Medical Technician in Toronto's Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Emergency Room Trauma Unit from 1986 to 1996, and working as a certified Personal Trainer in Los Angeles during his Chiropractic studies.

|
His passion for sports and great desire to be at the leading edge of rehabilitative care has lead him to an incredible degree of involvement in sports medicine.
|
|
Dr. McAllister has volunteered at Toronto Argonauts Football club training camps, worked with team Doctors for the former Los Angeles Raiders Football club, the Professional Beach Volleyball circuit, Mountain Bike Races, and been a medical team member at the 1994 USA World Cup of Soccer.

Since entering private practice, Dr. McAllister has continued his involvement in sports medicine, knowing that this is where the leading edge of care will occur -- and where he is able gain the knowledge that he can bring to his own patients in his daily practice. This knowledge has been gained at the highest levels of sports competition, at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games where he was a medical team member, the Soke Cup World Karate Championships, the 1999 Winnipeg Pan Am Games, at both the Canadian and Provincial Women's Hockey Championships (1999-2001) as a member of the CAIR (Clinical Athletic Injuries Rehabilitation) Team, the Women's World Hockey Championships in 2000, the Canada Summer Games in 2001, and the World Track & Field Championships, also in 2001.
Closer to home, Dr. McAllister was a Medical Team Member at the 1998 Ontario Summer Games (held in Guelph), is a team Doctor for the University of Guelph varsity teams, is involved with sports medicine on a community level, and with the President's Choice/Subaru Triathlon Series (as both Doctor and participant!).

The good doctor is also a member of the Society of Weight-Training Injury Specialists & of the International Federation of Sports Medicine. And most recently Dr. McAllister received a great honour when he was named Canada's only Preceptorship Doctor for the Southern California University of Health Sciences.
The
preceptorship is an important continuation of the teaching activities in which Dr.
McAllister is currently involved. It will be
in addition to the teaching which he provides to the co-op program for high school
students in Guelph, and the volunteer experience for university students who are
interested in gaining valuable health care industry experience.
The
preceptorship is an opportunity for those students who have studied in a American College,
but wish to practice in Canada, to gain valuable knowledge of Canada's Healthcare System. It is a chance for Chiropractic students who have
fulfilled their clinical requirements as an intern, at the University in Los Angeles, but
want to gain real life clinical experience in a Canadian setting, before they graduate
& sit for their board exams.
Dr.
McAllister believes that knowledge is obtained so it can be used to help others. As such, he has a great desire for everyone
to share in the benefits of good health and in the knowledge he has gained. To this end, in addition to his lectures
to employers about ergonomic considerations in the workplace, his charitable
work through the Guelph-Wellington Rotary Club, and his professional development lectures, Career Nights/Days at various universities and high schools, his guest appearances on local television health & sports talk shows (Rogers' Ask The Expert & SportsZone), the Doctor lectures at his alma mater, the Southern California University of Health Sciences (where he also sits on the Alumni Board), and is part of the Visiting Scholars program at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College.
As a Doctor
and Health Care Professional Dr. McAllister believes that good health is for life, and for
him to be able to help his patients on an ongoing basis, he must continue to learn &
grow, and find new fields of practical experience. And
maybe even more importantly, Dr. McAllister is proud to not only to help others be
healthy, but to also live according to what he teaches -- and be able to use his knowledge
to help the lives of those closest to him.
